I have a friend who is addicted to sugar, white bread, etc. She has an 8 year old daughter. I have tried to explain the health risks about her diet and nutrition choices, but I am more concerned about what she is teaching her daughter. She will only use white bread for daughters lunches. What is your opinion about what damage she is doing to her not only in the present but in the future.

Thanks you,

I am 84 years old. I grew up on peanut butter sandwiches on white bread. I don't think making an issue of this will do any good.

I believe you are right to think she is not teaching her kids to eat well, that and once you feed a child enough white bread he would never want to switch.

Haven't you noticed that the things you grew up eating are now the things you would eat on a bet? I grew up eating meat, now I SELDOM eat meat. White bread now??? Nope! And the list goes on...

I don't think anything is wrong with white bread. My mother cooked 2 vegetables with every meal and I only ate about a total of 4 vegetables growing up. Now I eat things I hated before. The child will grow up and be able to make her own decisions. Giving her the support to that is a lot more important than white bread. State your opinion, maybe, but let everyone raise their children as they see fit. Who's next? The neighbors, co-workers, strangers buying white bread at the store?? You can't save everybody!!!
