Take Me Out (to Eat?) at the Ballgame?

I'm all for a family outing to the ballpark, and with rising prices of gas, food, and just about everything, we'd all like to save some money, while enjoying leisure activities. I've been hearing a lot about the "all you can eat" sections at baseball parks across the nation. For a few added dollars to the price of a seat, you can have unlimited access to some standard ball park favorites. Now, I'm all for some treats at the ballpark, but is this perceived "value eating" really a good idea?

In Pittsburgh, three cheers for adding green salads to the options available. Otherwise, there's much of what you'd expect - hotdogs, Cracker Jack, popcorn, peanuts - and in some cases even beer!

What's your favorite ballpark food?

  • Hotdogs
  • Popcorn or Cracker Jack
  • Peanuts
  • Nachos

Here's where I have a big problem with this concept: It's really hard for most of us to turn down "free food". It's the same problem many of us have at all-you-can-eat buffets... No control and unlimited eating.

My advice? If you do well at buffets, and can limit your consumption and maintain control, by all means, get those free eats with the price of a ticket. Know yourself... If this is a disaster waiting to happen in the food intake department, then sit somewhere else. While the food may be free, you'll be "paying" for it in extra pounds. You do have a choice!

Am I "off base"? What do you think?

SO true, "While the food may be free, you'll be "paying" for it in extra pounds", and with some heartburn possibly.
