Where's the beef (ribs!)?

Posted by Yaakov on May 14 at 08:56am

I agree with Kathryn Vowell above - it is grilling and not bar-b-q but I don't think Memphis bar-b-q is all that per my three visits, of course, I do come from Alabama so I'm used to good bar-b-q anyway.

I live in Texas, the undisputed home of BBQ-the real beef version. You are girlling. BBQ is smoked. Both are good.

I live in Montana and raise my own beef so I like to find ways to make the same cow taste different.

I love grilled zucchini! I don't eat meat, so I didn't choose any of the above. Grilled pineapple is also tasty.

Meat is gross. I Q only plant based food.

Here in South Africa we call it a BRAAI - nothing like enjoying a braai in the garden or the country bushveld and listening to the sounds of the evening with a good S.A glass of wine in hand. We eat boerewors (sausage) steak, chops, chicken, kebabs, ostrich etc. Side dishes are - mielies (corn on the cob) garlic bread and a big assortment of salads.
We love it !!!!

Get it right Doc, your talking about grilling. Real BBQ is done slowly with smoke. The REAL BBQ capital is right here in TEXAS!!

Posted by Mike, Houston Tx on May 22 at 04:16pm

I'll admit that some regions are more known for good bar b q, and I'll vacation to each of those places. Memphis , N. Carolina, Texas, and Kansas City.
However, I think the best bar b q (charcoal) and grilling (gas) comes from my back yard. I grill and Q. Each food has it's best way to be cooked and I am well prepared for either method.
Hats off to all the back yard chefs!

The best bbq is done with wood (mesquite, hickory, maple, pecan), not charcoal, and finished with a good bbq sauce

Posted by mwest on May 27 at 01:54pm

What about the LAMB??????

Posted by Mark on May 27 at 02:17pm

seared tuna, jumbo shrimp wrapped in prossuito, asparagus wrapped in capicola, and burger. It's all Q and good if done on wood. Grilling is gas. Charcoal is wood, only not as good.

No joke about calling it 'barbecue'. It's called GRILLING!

IMO, barbecue here in Texas is the best! It's almost incomparable to any other place I've eaten it. Not to say it's bad elsewhere, it just tastes better to me here!

If you're ever in the Austin area, you have to try Rudy's or Salt Lick, both of which have been featured on the Travel Channel and Food Network...Yum!!

I like pork but Texas has the best BBQ in the world because it's beef! The best BBQ is smoked with Pecan or Mesquite wood. (Can you tell I'm from North East Texas?)

Posted by Phyllis Anne on May 28 at 06:33pm

Although I'm an Arizonian. I do have Texas roots. Beef Brisket!!! Now what was the question?
btw, I have a simple recipe that turns out a great brisket in 5 hours total time from lighting the grill to serving it.
