President Obama and Portion Control
Kudos to our President for his fab eating habits. While he is a model of healthy eating and daily physical activity, he can also enjoy a burger and fries on occasion, without guilt (and with obvious enjoyment!). As you've heard me say before, it's all about the portions.
While the world recently watched President Obama going out for burgers and fries with Vice President Joe Biden, I was more impressed with what was ordered: Regular size hamburgers - or a splurge of a regular cheeseburger! No super-sizing, or bacon double cheeseburgers. No orders of mega-fries, just a regular (which if I recall correctly might have been a "shared" item.) No giant-sized regular sodas or milkshakes.
I'd like to see this portion "downsizing" stick around. Perhaps President Obama is setting the next new food trend, and fighting back against portion distortion. I sure hope so!

I'm in total agreement. Americans eat portions that are way out of line. It appears, that our stomach's can be stretched, thus requiring more to fill. I have maintained my weight for 40 years by eating moderate portions. That occasional burger or pizza does not add the pounds, if you eat appropriate portions the majority of the time.
When he stops smoking, then I will take this "healthy" eating cues article about him seriously. Smoking is worse on the health than being overweight.
I think portion control is a very healthy way of controlling weight, cholesterol and promoting a long healthy life.
What I don't agree with is Mr. Obama's idea of portion control in health care according to age, race, etc.
This promotes a shortened life for many people by using the "let's get rid of the old folks", they cost too much and take too much of the medical communities time and money, let's give it to the illegal aliens and people who don't work or contribute anything to the world.
Make your views to this kind of "national health" known to Mr. Obama. I don't consider him our president, he is a tyrant dictator.
The president is not a doctor. He will be controlling every thing soon. He has never been without health insurance or had a child with something tragically wrong that insurance or money will not cure. He does not have the answers for everything. He needs to provide reasonable health insurance (like the insurance he has) to everyone for a reasonable cost, not free. Do away with insurance, Make rates reasonable again. Make the insurance provide reasonable insurance for those that have pre-existing conditions. There is such discrimination in the health care insurance business. For the president to preach about portion control makes me ill.
Can we apply some of that portion control to the ridiculous over-spending that is going on in Washington? Also,we should only accept health care reform from our lawmakers when they come up with a plan that THEY are willing to live under themselves. What a bunch of hypocrites! If it's good enough for the rest of us it should be good enough for them too.
I agree with DeeAnn - If he can't stop smoking, he certainly can't offer advice on portion control.
The President is setting an example for his constituents.
He is not forcing them to do anything that he would not do himself. He and the first lady are leading a sustainable lifestyle by planting a vegitable garden on the grounds of the white House; Kudos to the first family.
Jo Clapp, where are you getting your information? Because it is decidedly untrue. In any case, yay for portion control.
