Foods to Put You In the Mood

Food does a lot of things—but does it make you feel romantic? That's the idea behind aphrodisiac foods. Now, whether that means a true biological effect, or just a feel-good food is pretty much open for discussion. Not that it really matters! While most foods are related to special taste, texture, and appearance, there are some that have a biological connection. Do you have foods that put you in the mood for love?

When it comes to biology, one of the most popular aphrodisiac foods are oysters. Oysters are rich in zinc, and zinc is important for testosterone production, so that's the biological connection. It's pretty debatable whether that extra zinc is making a difference, or it's just the belief that oysters are an arousing food.

Chocolate is one of the foods cross-over aphrodisiac foods. Chocolate contains a chemical (phenylethylamine) that is a stimulant perhaps related to stimulation and arousal. Chocolate also has a smooth and creamy texture that is quite appealing.

How about the term "honeymoon"? Did you know that comes from the idea that honey is one of the original aphrodisiac foods, as its texture is very smooth, silky, and sticky. In ancient times, honey was thought to be a sign of good luck for the happy newlyweds.

Asparagus have been thought of as an aphrodisiac food since the 1800s, although an explanation is hard to find.

Other well known aphrodisiac foods include: bananas, avocados, figs, and artichokes.

Do you think there's anything to this "food group"? Leave a comment with your thoughts.

i think garlic is also a good food for arousal, despite its smell

green leafy veges are said to be mood enhancers, so try one.

KJ said:

i remain unconvinced about the asparagus; as it's known to pass very quickly through the system and cause an undesireable smell (and taste...) to bodily fluids!

Shannon said:

Pineapple has an amazing smell and taste! and, from personal experience, it makes bodily juices taste pretty darn good :)

I'd like to get Shannon's phone number! :)

A famous restaurant in our town promotes in Seattle, Washington promotes clam nector as an aphrodisiac and has had a tongue in cheek sign posted in their main restaurant for years stating that after a certain number of cups, you have to have your wife's permission for more cups!

Jaz said:

It was said on the doctor tv show that pineapple is a very good fruit to set the mood it also goes very well with strawberries. It leaves you feeling refreshed and your body with a sexy sweet taste

Pam said:

The asparagus. Maybe the taste and the after odor has nothing to do with the arousal factor. Maybe its in the suggestive shape?

Doc. G said:

To Dr.Madelyn Fernstrom, I think looks have a lot to do with it. No matter the food an ugly fat person, man or woman may eat, it dosen't result in turn on. I will like to prove this with you, if you would share a cup of green tea with me. By the way, roasted yellow plantain or bananas with Penuts or cashewd nuts is the best. This combinations get it up there like a rock.

Cristina said:

neah, it's the mood not the food. Both me and hubby hate chocolate; he doesn't like sea food ...
the best aphrodisiac is a nice mood and making sure we are always "playing"; we never mix foods wt love making (except maybe for strawberries and grapes, but those are rare exceptions)

I think a healthy diet and lifestyle in general is the turn on. Healthy people have more, and better sex. Having more sex promotes good health; its a very good cycle.

Peanut Butter should be in the food group!

I can't believe everyone left out whipped cream! Especially when you lick it from your favorite place on your spouse's/lover's body!

Thanks for this article Health Journal and Dr. Madelyn Fernstrom

read a book Encyclopedia of Whole Food Medicine - Farmacist Desk Reference...Don Tolman (It is meant to be spelt incorrectly)It explains the signature of foods. Each food mentioned in the article symbolises the reproductive and sexual organs of males and females. Nature tries to show us what to eat and that whole foods balance the needs of the body.

I think that men just tell you oysters make you horny thinking that if you eat them you'll have sex with them.

It doesn't matter what it is, I think whatever foods you and your partner like to eat or eat off of each other is the key to this whole discussion.

from my experience i dare say that strawbberies and water melon are also such kind of fruit that arise feelings for love .but not only fruit also perfumes play a main role in feelings. i always remember those places and situations where i was or what i was doing when i smell that perfume which i had sprayedthat is why i think that perfumes have that leading role in love and sex.

Strawberries, cherries, grapes, or any other small sweet fruit is definitely something to play with. Have a bit of fun with a strawberry like this: Pop a bite into your mouth, and then kiss your significant other and tongue fight for it. Always makes for a good chuckle and good foreplay. I would have to agree with the pineapple as well, and bullshit to the asparagus. Pineapple makes my girl taste amazing, although she does regardless, down there. :P

Big Dan said:

Due to Gout and Gouty Arthritis I can't eat shellfish and Asparagus anymore. But I can attest to the benefits of oysters for virility. I used to work a remote radar site and when the cook made fried oysters,I'd eat about twenty or so. Then I had to hide for the rest of the day in secluded work areas as the effect was quite evident. Trouble was, he never cooked them when I was due
to go to town for vacation. And, in town, six Blue points weren't enough and
a dozen worked for the short term. More
were longer lasting but expensive. Clam
juice? Don't know - liked clams though.
Can science extract the good stuff from oysters and delete the Gout triggers?

Forget food...you need to have a partner first! Its all in what you see and how your Brain analyses it!

ok thats good but in addition honey with royaljelly is better also see food like estakoza will be beneficial.try them you will not be down

christine said:

Frankly, I believe that if you are with the right partner in life, all the rest is bullshit! Sorry for the expression, but what you eat may enhance your sexual hormones but will never replace a good relationship, that is up to you, your partner and where you are in life and how you want to uplift the other, because no food in hell will make you more appetizing to the other if that other person is uncaring, selfish, rude and downright despicable. Food, however will enhance an already good and well established relationship based on true love and respect for each other and each other's spaces, within reason of course, because it will be yet another source to share as a couple who understands each other and who wants each other's wellbeing.

Regards
Christine

The best aphrodisiac is love, and add high higiene with a fine perfum and a shot of brandy...... the perfect prelude for a wonderful battle.

ima say chocolate!!!!!!!!! but ima definately try the pineapple

GEORGE M. said:

My wife and I had been taking chamomile tea(sleepy time) and add it with ginger powder for relaxation, de-stressing and a good sleep. I noticed that I always get extra arousal every time, like 3 or 4 times a week, good ones.
There were also episodes of 5 days(nights i mean) in a row considering our age. And I concluded it was the fresh pineapple after dinner with the tea. And of course I walk like 30 minutes 2 or 3 times a week for exercise.

Tibbi said:

Scallops with white wine do well as an aphrodisiac as well as desserts like tiramuisu (you have the chocolate and the strong coffee mix), chocolate mousse, and the tried and true chocolate covered strawberries or even bananas (leave the dipping chocolate and whipped cream on the side - get creative with them and you can definitely make things interesting!)

Vanilla scented candles are a turn on as well, especially for men who seem to like that sort of scent. Ladies do remember, your man is a visual creature - lingerie will work for many a man, that is before he tears it off you!

(all noted from my own previous experiences) 0 :)

yea onions always make me pop a boner.

I'm surprised I didn't see ginger appear more often in these posts. To get the best effects from it, I grate about a 1-inch piece and then boil it in about a cup of water in the microwave for about 3-4 minutes. Strain it, add a little sweetener or even a tea bag of a flavor that you like (if you don't like the ginger taste) and then feel your nature rise! It really does work.

Aphrodisiac- Arousing or intensifying sexual desire. Something, such as a drug or food having such an affect.

Some aphrodisiacs are myth and some magic. Smells and sights do arouse. This article is based on foods(eatibles that may contain mild drugs). From my experience. Red Wine, Champagne, Chocolate, Berries, Grapes, Fresh Cherries, Garlic (and white wine), all have done the trick for me.
I love seafood myself, raw oysters to me are soft like a woman, maybe that with the zinc is why it works for men.
Leafy greens were mentioned, iceberg lettuce has a mild opiate in it. Same chemical cousin as turkey, bread etc. the mild drugs that make you feel full, complete, happy. B vitamins are great for this as well.
Probably cucumbers along with melons because they are juicy.
My last great aphrodisiac experience was with my love on valentines, the silkiness of chocolate truffles in our mouths together, I will never see those heart shaped boxes the same :) ah...
I have learned that love begets all goods things..

A persons diet can contribute to a person's libido. Foods rich in zinc do boost a persons libido.
Speaking from experience, have your man eat a few handful of pumpkin or sesame seeds and let the good times roll.
Or if that doesn't work, ice cream!!

First of all let me say something to all the people on here who have made very "stupid" comments about sex with an "ugly or fat person". I am what most would consider "fat and ugly" (or at least, that's how I think about myself). I am with a very good man who loves me despite my "fatness". He's not the skinniest guy I've dated either, but he's not fat. And he hates it when I complain about how much I weigh. He always tells me how beautiful I am, no matter what I feel. And I appreciate him very much. We found out we were having a baby then a few days later, I had a miscarriage. It really devastated us. But despite that we still try to make time for sex even with our busy schedules. You people need to get over yourselves. Weight is not always an issue... it's something that society has imprinted in the minds of everyone to make all of us feel bad about ourselves in one way or another. That is just wrong. No, I don't like how I look, but if my man is happy with it that's all that matters. Do what makes YOU happy.

Wow, reading all these suggestions has got be heating up. But I have to tell you, I am 16 years older than my man and he loves me for me. We are the best of friends and care deeply about each other. I certainly am going try some of these ideas, like the pineapple and chocolate. I know a good massage puts him in the mood, like starting at his feet and working up. Guys, have your mate rub your penis with a popsickle. Drives my man wild. Have fun!
