More On Food Allergies
I enjoyed hearing from all of you who know first-hand about food allergies–your own or your children's. It's important to understand, as most of you did, that there is a tremendous challenge in covering a complex topic in only a few minutes for a TV segment. Our goal is to provide general, scientific evidence-based information which is helpful to the general public, but we cannot cover all points. (Even some important ones!)
What is important is raising awareness in this important area, and providing some fundamental strategies to assess and manage food allergies. For those who struggle daily with a severe food allergy, life can be a challenge.
Active research in this area will hopefully provide a vaccine in the future, altering the immune system response to a problem food. Many academic centers across the country are working towards understanding the complexities of the food allergy response.
We hope to do future segments on food allergies and update progress in the field. ...Stay tuned!

Thankfully the only serious allergy I've ever experienced was when I ate some seafood down in the Bahamas. After that I always kept an anti-histamine with me, just in case...it was a bit scary.
It's funny though, because that was over 5 years ago, and I seem to have outgrown it now, if that is possible.
My food allergy is not swelling or sneezing. I get a migraine, brain fog and flu like symptoms that last 3 days or longer. I try hard to not eat foods that will trigger this but it's very hard when eating out or even in a friends' home. Preservatives can really set this off - so difficult to know when they're present since they're hidden. Also, my symptoms are not immediate, sometimes they appear the next day so I don't always know what the culpret is. The only thing I've found that helps me is to take 1 tsp. of baking soda in 8 oz. of water, then 8 oz more water immediately, for three days. Then drink LOTS of water all day to help flush out the irritants. Is this an allergy or food intolerance? I found out the foods that are bad for me by doing cytotoxic evaluations. The program I need to follow is extremely difficult! Do you have any advice for me? This problem has affected my life very much. One doctor diagnosed me with chronic fatigue syndrom but I have no symptoms if I strictly stay on the diet.
I had never really had problems with food allergies until my Senior year in High School. I had flu like symptoms and couldn't eat anything without getting sick for a span of 3 weeks in which i had lost about 25 pounds, before going to a doctor. I was tested for everything and found out thatI have allergies in a lot of foods like: Dairy, Eggs, Soy, Wheat, Baker's Yeast, Molds etc. I hate the fact that i never feel good because i usually eat some kind of food that is an irritant to my body.
